Song of the Day (Saul Williams – WTF!)

An absolutely fantastic indie artist, poet etc, Saul Williams is simply bad-ass! His music is a blend of tight beats, intelligent emotionally and politically charged poetic lyrics. The track WTF! comes off of his album ““The Inevitable Rise and Liberation Of Niggy Tardust“. I got the chance to see Saul on his tour with Nine Inch Nails. I really liked his song Black Stacey and when I heard is next album was  a collaboration with Trent Reznor and had a downloadable purchase price of $5 made it a no-brainer. This album quickly became one of my most played full albums. Its just so easy to sit down.  Start a track and only an hour later do you realize that you have listened to the entire album. Each song has a level of symmetry and balance to every other even though the pace changes from extreme to extreme. Let’s not forget what you got for $5. Fifteen 320kbps MP3 (CD Quality) beauifully mastered tracks, each song’s ID3 tracks that includes lyrics, high quality CD covers were included and of course all brought to you DRM FREE! You just don’t get a better deal than that PERIOD. UPDATE: In writing this review I went to his website to find a music purchase link and all I have to say that his site FUCKING AMAZING! Graphically advanced but smooth as butter…. the best words I could find for it is HD website.

I can’t begin to describe how much I love Saul’s music. Gotta respect someone who has the balls to put it ALL out there. He’s unapologetic in his lyrics and he is commited to his fan base which support him loyaly. He’s been seen many times on Russel Simmons “Def Poetry” and is a well respected member of the hip-hop and poetic communities.

The song I am going to play is titled WTF! . It’s much more of a commerical track than other of Saul’s work but I chose it because of it’s commercial appeal (also, it’s what I was listening to at the gym).  It’s a call to all of us who bite our tongues too much that it’s okay to have an opinion or explore new things…. that repitition is death! I of course am listening to this as I follow out my busy schedule of going to gym almost everyday, which is really only conditioning so that I can go hiking and mountain biking as the summer comes…  Anyways, WTF!
