Firefox 3.5 arrives
Posted June 30, 2009 – in: Blog, WebI just installed it. It takes a little getting used to. Some of the GUI has changed (size of the tabs which make overall screen space larger but is a little unusual at first), overall changes make it feel faster. The rendering engine feels smooth and I can’t wait to try some embedded media. Welcome home HTML 5!

Posted June 4, 2009 – in: Blog, Cell Phone, Linux, Palm Pre, Technology, WebThe PalmPre reviews are coming in. I posted the recaps but you should definitely read the articles. It’s all about the UI. The hardware quality is what seems to be a downer to this phone. I really liked Gizmodo’s take on it compared to the iPhone and my feeling are right in line with the editor.

Posted June 4, 2009 – in: Blog, Technology, Web, Windows, netbooksI want a netbook. But I have biding my time as the current gen seems a little underpowered. I want to be able to watch a decent res video on a plane flight from NY to CA (typically 5hours on the longest leg). The second gen looks like it might give me what I want and more. Dual core Atom with nVidia’s new Tegra platform is making the netbook look very attractive. Now I won’t have to lug my MacBook around worrying about it getting stolen/damaged.

Posted June 2, 2009 – in: Blog, Technology, WebIf you’re AMD, you’ve got to be feeling pretty good right now. Intel’s busy handling a lawsuit bigger than the left half of Russia, you’re finally free of that dreaded manufacturing business and you’ve got a new pair of mainstream CPUs debuting at Computex. The first of the two is the dual-core 45nm Athlon II X2 250, which features a TDP of 65-watts and can whittle power consumption down to 50 percent when handling just “basic tasks.” Then there’s the first-ever dual-core AMD Phenom II, the X2 550 Black Edition. Built from the ground-up for its ‘Dragon’ platform, this here chip also supports OverDrive 3.0 and should provide some higher-end features on a budget. Unfortunately, details beyond that are inexplicably scant, but we’ll be sure to pass on whatever surfaces at the show. Full release is after the break.
