Music Review – Elbow

Posted December 15, 2008 – in: Blog, Music

Today I would like to talk about a band I discovered through amazon.com’s MP3 Daily Deal. The band I am speaking of is called Elbow, a British band who’s sound I can’t really describe due to there highly diverse range. I can say this though…. if you like them you end up loving them, if you “aren’t a fan” then you might find a song that will have you ending up changing your mind. The song below is titled “Grounds for Divorce” it’s there first single off the album titled “The Seldom Seen Kid” it has a southern blues feel and in my opinion rocks. You Left 4 Dead fans out there may recognize it from the first T.V. ad. If you like this song and would like to sample another song I recommend “The Bones of You” off the same album. Anyways, hope you like it, love it or at least give it a listen. Please feel free to leave feedback.

Lyrics

Mondays is for drinking to the seldom seen kid

I’ve been working on a cocktail called Grounds for Divorce
Whoah
Polishing a compass that I hold in my sleep
Whoah
Doubt comes in on sticks but then he kicks like a horse
Whoah
There’s a Chinese cigarette case
And the rest you can keep
And the rest you can keep
And the rest you can keep

There’s a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall
There’s a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall

Mondays is for drinking to the seldom seen kid
Oooo
Oooo

There’s this whispering of jokers doing flesh by the pound
To a chorus of supposes from the little town whores
There’ll be twisted karaokee at the Aniseed lounge
And I’ll bring you further roses
But it does you no good
And it does me no good
And it does you no good

There’s a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall
There’s a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall
There’s a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall

Someday we’ll be drinking with the seldom seen kid
Oooo
Oooo

The Bones of You

Lyrics

So I’m there,
Charging around with a juganaut brow
Over draft speeches and deadlines to make
Cramming commitments like cats in a sack
Telephone burning, purposeful gait
When out of a doorway the tentacles stretch
Of a song that i know, and the world
Moves in slow – mo
Straight to my head like the first cigarette of the day
And its you, and its me, and we’re sleeping through the day
And I’m five years ago and every thousand miles away…

You have turned
A man of my caliber stood in the street
Like a sleepwalking teenager i know
That I dealt with this years ago
I took a hammer to every momento
But image on image like beads on a rosary
Move through my head as the music takes hold
And the second it hits
I can work till i break
But i love the bones of you that i will never escape
And its you, and its me, and we’re sleeping through the day
And I’m five years ago every thousand miles away…
And i can’t move my arm, for the fear that you will wake
And I’m five years ago every thousand miles away…

And I’m five years ago every thousand miles away…
And I’m five years ago every thousand miles away…
And its you, and its me, and we’re sleeping through the day
And I’m five years ago every thousand miles away…
