Music Review “Tricky”
Posted January 2, 2009 – in: Blog, MusicI have posted several music reviews lately and I find myself gravitating toward it lately so here is another one.
The artist I would like to talk about today is none other than Tricky. Emerging from the mid-90′s British Trip-Hop scene Tricky (born Adrian Thaws) put an edge on the genre that is unmistakable and completely remarkable. From his distinct vocals complete with British accent accompanied by the stunningly gorgeous singing of “Martina Topley-Bird” to the amazing DJ work which pushes boundaries by mixing classic works with 80′s pop, Tricky brings a profoundly deep and emotional audioscape that listeners from any spectrum can love.
Getting his start as a British rapper, Tricky was discovered by Massive Attack and worked with them on the Album “Blue Lines” until releasing his solo album “Maxinquaye” (named after his mother). Tricky’s freshmen release was met with both commercial and critical success. He has released several albums since including ’08′s “Knowle West Boy”. He has performed with a variety of artists including Bjork, Portishead, Goldfrapp and others. Some of you Sci-fi nerds out there may recognize him from the film “The Fifth Element” as Zorg’s number two. Though his subsequent albums have not received the notoriety of his first, he is definitely an amazingly talented musician who is worth listen if you haven’t heard of him, or another if you have.
I have posted links to two songs that I have been playing a bit lately and they are titled “Hell is Round the Corner” and “Ponderosa”. Both are amazing representations of his work and can be found on the the album “A Ruff Guide to”.
