Song of the Day – Matt & Kim “Daylight”
Posted August 10, 2009 – in: Blog, MusicHello Monday!
Today’s song is from the Brooklyn band “Matt & Kim“. This song was recently featured in a Bacardi commercial which inspired me to post it. I have listened to this album extensively lately and if you like this song than you will love the album. It’s vibrant and a lot of fun.

Posted July 10, 2009 – in: Blog, Cell Phone, Linux, Palm Pre, TechnologyAnd it’s done. The Pre is now hackable and can be moved over to Verizon. The price for a pre on eBay is roughly $350. Hmmmmm.
It’s not the fabled GSM Pre, but PreCentral forum member Cleanser has apparently managed to unlock his Pre’s CDMA radio and get voice and SMS service on Verizon — data’s still a no-go, but he’s working on it. Other devices have been flashed between the networks for years, so we’ve no doubt that this is possible, but we doubt it’ll ever be super-easy — according to Cleanser, the hardest part was getting someone to add his device’s MEID to the system, and that’s always gonna be tough, regardless of VZW’s big talk about open network access. Still, it’s heartening to see a webOS device on another carrier — Palm, you want to maybe do this up official sometime? Video after the break.

Firefox 3.5 arrives
Posted June 30, 2009 – in: Blog, WebI just installed it. It takes a little getting used to. Some of the GUI has changed (size of the tabs which make overall screen space larger but is a little unusual at first), overall changes make it feel faster. The rendering engine feels smooth and I can’t wait to try some embedded media. Welcome home HTML 5!
After some rather impressive RC builds, Firefox 3.5 is all packaged up and ready for public consumption. Mozilla is saying its new browser is more than two times faster than Firefox 3, but what has us more excited is the support for plugin-free “open codec” video and audio playback using Ogg Vorbis and Ogg Theora– it’s still in its infancy, but the subtle glimpse we’ve seen so far of a world without Flash video reducing our CPU to jelly is rather compelling.

Posted June 30, 2009 – in: BlogIf I had to guess I would say that this will be available just before God of War III comes out. I would love to replay the first two. I just hope they don’t charge a ton of cash for it.
At first glance, we thought this all sounded a little too familiar: as you know, some PS3s had software-based PS2 emulation way back in 2007. So it was a little bit of a surprise when Siliconera unearthed patent docs dated last December (and only published by the patent office late last week) for the technology to decode and recompile software written for the PS2’s Emotion Engine on the current device’s Cell Processor. There’s been some speculation that this functionality might be included in the rumored slim PS3 at some point — either in the form of support for your old school PS2 discs or for digital downloads. Who knows? You might be playing your old copy of Shrek: Super Party! on your PS3 sooner than you think.

Posted June 30, 2009 – in: Blog, Cell Phone, Linux, Palm Pre, TechnologyWTF! After seeing this I would say that bringing the Pre to AT&T will be accomplished before bringing it to Verizon (at least by hack). Hmmm can I drop my SIM card in it?
Having the Palm Pre on Sprint might be good for Americans driving their pick ‘em up trucks down the CDMA data highway, but it doesn’t do Europeans (or Palm’s bottom line) any good over in the Old World. Now we’ve got video and images of a GSM-loving Palm Pre on the loose in Vietnam. Why ‘Nam? Easy, as workers gain more rights and higher wages in China, manufacturers of all our fancy consumer electronics are heading further south in search of cheap labor. While this doesn’t mean a damn thing regarding launch, it’s still good to see a functioning GSM Pre in the wild on the way to launch sometime before the end of the year, possibly sooner. Video after the break, as the saying goes.
